What patterns of political development emerged in the early American colonies?
How do they affect political and economic conflicts social relations between the colonies and Britain?
British colonization of the Americas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_colonization_of_the_Americas The origins of the American Political Principles http://jillsonamericangovernment.com/chap1/review.asp English Thirteen Colonies that became the original states U.S., were founded along the east coast beginning in 1607. Spain, France and Russia also founded small settlements in what would become the territory U.S.. The population of the Thirteen Colonies grew rapidly, reaching 50,000 in 1650, 250,000 in 1700, and 2.5 million in 1775. The high birth rates and mortality are low, were increased by the constant flow of immigrants from Europe and the slaves of the West Indies. Occasional small-scale involved the French wars and the Indians to the north and the Spanish and Indians in the south. Religion was a powerful influence on many immigrants, especially the Puritans of New England and the German sects Pennsylvania, with upwards of revivals of the First Great Awakening. Colonies of the 1750s had reached a standard of living as high as Britain, with government much freer than anywhere else. More free men owned their own farms and could vote in the elections of the colonial legislatures, while courts Local dispensed justice. Real soldiers were seen on rare occasions. The colonists had no representation in the British government's decision and believed they were being deprived of their constitutional rights as Englishmen. For many years local government has allowed greater flexibility to local colonial governments. In early the 1760s in London demanded that the colonists pay taxes. The new tax on foreign stamps and tea ignited a firestorm of opposition. The British responded with military force in Massachusetts, and shut down the system of local self-government as the colonists called the Intolerable Acts. After the fight broke out in April 1775 each of the colonies ousted all the royal officials and establish their own governments, which were coordinated in Philadelphia by the Continental Congress. The American Revolution lasted a total war. Although loyal local King George, the new nation declared independence in July 1776 as the United States of America. After the U.S. Army captured the British invasion in 1777, France became a military ally and the war became a major international war with the forces evenly balanced. With the capture of a second British invasion army at Yorktown in 1781, the British opened peace negotiations. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 proved to be very supportive of the new nation. The new national government proved too weak, so a Constitutional Convention and was named in 1787 to create an alternative. The result of the United States Constitution ratified in 1788 created a federal government based on the ideology of republicanism, equal rights and civic duties. The first ten amendments known as the Bill of Rights quickly followed, which guarantees many individual rights of federal interference. The new national government with President George Washington built a sound economic system, designed by Alexander Hamilton, who settled the war debts, created a bank and sought national economic growth based on the cities and commerce rather than agriculture. Hamilton formed the Federalist Party obtain local support for new policies, which were opposed by Thomas Jefferson. The Jay Treaty of 1795 opened a decade of trade with Britain, which was at war with revolutionary France. Jefferson, a friend of France, who feared British influence would undermine republicanism, created an opposition party, and the First Party System on the basis of the voters in each state, began operating in the mid-1790s. Jefferson tried to force the British to recognize the rights of neutrals U.S. sailors stopping seizure of American vessels, and stop aiding the hostile Indians in the West. When that did not the U.S. 1812 declared war against Britain. The war was indecisive, but militarily guarantee the independence of America, as well as friendly relations with the British Empire, which controlled Canada.
